What's next for the Picture House?

The Whiteladies Picture House thankfully has been saved from becoming a Gym and flats. Many applications attempting to convert the cinema into something useless have failed in the long period that it has been shut.

However this recent victory still doesn't guarantee a safe future for the Picture House. There still remains the problem of finding something suitable and relevant for it's use, something that will do the iconic building justice.

There are several ideas being tossed about; re-use as a commercial cinema, an independent cinema and also a centre for art and culture. However there also remains the looming threat of another application from any number of undesired contractors.

The fight to restore the Picture house to its former glory has only just begun.

So, Keep Whiteladies Local have got back together after a period of working on various other projects and have decided to give the Picture House a helping hand... We are currently working on several high profile charity events for the area which, as well as promoting the local business's and generally being great fun-we hope will raise money, of which we would donate to a party committed to re-opening the cinema for a cultural use.

Watch this space for further details on our upcoming activities in the area.
